Exercise therapy

Exercise therapy is a program that is used by health care professionals, especially by physiotherapists  to help individuals. With it, it is aimed  to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability among individuals who suffer from pain and dysfunction. This includes where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors.

An assessment program is crucial to explore the  history of the condition with a physical examination and a radiological investigations when necessary. Then, a tailored exercise therapy plan  is designed that is sometimes accompanied by the other physiotherapy interventions. There is usually a constant interaction between the physiotherapist and the patient  throughout  the treatment period program.

At the end of the treatment, patient continues to exercise at home. This provides the patients an independency in the self management of their problem, maintain and further enhance the  recovery.

In studies, effect of exercise therapy  has been researched extensively and it is proven to be effective in restoration of normal musculoskeletal function and reducing  pain that is caused by overuse injuries, trauma and other reasons.  It also helps improve  physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being.
